CSX 1 Bridge Reconstruction: Chester - Hinsdale - Richmond - West Springfield over CSX Railroad
SPS New England, under a $23 million Design / Build Contract with MassDOT, is reconstructing six bridges over the CSX railroad in western Massachusetts. This project is part of the comprehensive multi-year rail transportation agreement between the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and CSX, designed to expand commuter rail service, strengthen the State’s transportation infrastructure, and improve the Commonwealth’s competitive position in the global economy. The work will increase the vertical clearance at the six locations to allow double stacked freight cars to move from Albany, NY to Worcester, Massachusetts. Increased vertical clearance at the six locations was achieved in September 2012 and the project is currently 75% complete. Work continues at four of the six locations with completion scheduled for the summer of 2014.
