Reconstruction of the Avenue A Bridge over the Connecticut River

SPS is reconstructing the signature Avenue A bridge over the Connecticut River while maintaining access for local vehicular and pedestrian traffic in to the town of Turners Falls. When complete, the 1,800 linear foot structure will have a new concrete bridge deck, sidewalks, ornamental bridge rail, lighting and an improved traffic flow at the intersection of the bridge and Route 2. SPS will also be performing structural steel repairs to the existing truss, replacing the bridge bearings , cleaning and repointing the existing granite piers and painting the entire steel superstructure. Work is scheduled to be complete in April, 2014.
