SPS is pleased to announce that it has been awarded its 7th Design Build Contract, the replacement of the Route 2 Bridge over Interstate 95/ Route 128 in both directions in Lexington, Massachusetts.
SPS is pleased to announce it is part of one of the three Design Build Teams short listed by the Massachusetts Department of Transportation to bid on the $215 Million Dollar Route 79/I-195 Interchange Improvements Project in Fall River, Massachusetts.
Known to some as the “spaghetti ramps”, the Route 79 viaducts were built in 1965 as part of the I-195 interchange with Route 79 near Battleship Cove. Currently, 12 bridges within the interchange are structurally deficient and need rehabilitation. Construction is expected to start in spring 2013.
On November 18, 2011, both Route 2 Eastbound and Westbound traffic was successfully shifted into the projects Phase 2 configuration. This milestone, was part of the of the $11 Million Dollar, twin bridge replacement project on Route 2 over Route 140 and the result of SPS’s innovation and a Value Engineering Change Proposal (VECP) that reduced the project duration by one entire year. This was accomplished by redesigning one of the two bridge structures to eliminate an entire phase of bridge work and a large portion of temporary roadway.
