SPS Work at Conley Terminal Featured at Dedication of Butler Memorial Park

SPS successfully helped to create the dedicated freight corridor that enables Massport to remove container trucks serving Conley Terminal from residential streets, while improving the operational efficiency of the terminal and the economic strength of the Port of Boston. SPS constructed the paved access road;  a new bridge over an inlet of the Boston Harbor Reserved Channel; a new entry/exit area for trucks to access the container terminal; and a new 4.5 acre public open space (buffer); and new intersection with Summer Street.

The Thomas J. Butler Memorial Park adds to the area’s existing network of parks and establishes an open space buffer between the maritime industrial activities along the Reserved Channel and the adjacent South Boston neighborhood.  The park features a memorial to Tommy Butler at its eastern end, a multi-use path, a dog park at its western end, and interpretive panels about the past and present of South Boston and the port.
